For absolutely yonkers (yes this is an actual word.. I think O_o) I’ve been wanting to do a family tree, but every website out there that advertises its ‘free’ archives are pretty much all lying, once you get onto the site it turns out either theres a monthly membership fee and then the archives are technically free to view, or you find that the website is free, but not really much help because it’s not based on archived records, but on other people manually entering the facts they know about their families.
Not being funny but I think everyone has a right to know where they come from and it doesn’t seem ethically right to charge £30-£40 a month to have access to archives, when most of the time you can only ever provide maybe two or three certificates of marriage or death - not much help to trace back more than a few generations.
If anyone knows of a website that doesn’t charge and provides helpful information, or anyone who has done a lengthy family tree and has any tips for me, please, please, PLEASE reply to this post! You’ll be making both me and my lovely nan very happy!
Any suggestions?
Thanks! x
